On the 15th of February I went to give a barn owl nest box to a truly inspiring group of people in Glastonbury.  This group of residents clubbed together to buy 27 acres of farmland, known as Summerlands, when it came up for sale in 2011.  They wanted to preserve this piece of their local countryside and now work with the help of a local farmer to manage the area more sympathetically for wildlife.

Looking around the site prior to erecting the box I could see the amount of progress that had already been made, and the provision of rough grassland habitat has enabled Field Voles to become well established.  Many of the Summerlands Trustees turned out to see the box installed – I have no doubt this box will be well looked after!
